Grand Hotel Europa History

A GLORIOUS PAST WITH AN EYE TO THE FUTURE.
THE TIME MACHINE OF GRAND HOTEL EUROPA

Built way back in 1869 by Schreiner & Klausner, Grand Hotel Europa is a real part of Innsbruck’s history. In 1883, the Bavarian architects of King Ludwig II completed the work of building the spectacular Baroque Hall and laying down the foundations for the hotel’s success in the following decades. It became a destination for the famous and the place to stay for heads of state and international stars travelling to Innsbruck. 2008 saw the start of a major refurbishment preserving the majority of the hotel but completely renovating its interior, respecting the original architecture and expanding it. The work continued until 2010 with the refurbishment of 100 new rooms with a more contemporary design. Crossing the threshold of Grand Hotel Europa is like entering an amazing “time machine” which transports you from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day, lingering in some periods, like the start of last century, with the warmth of the wood and Tyrolean style which we find in one of the restaurants and some of the rooms. The atmosphere and style of the 1950s is found in some rooms on the top floor. Finally, contemporary style is found in the ultramodern furnishings of the bar and of the remaining, more recently built rooms.

EAT AND SLEEP AT GRAND HOTEL EUROPA
TO RELIVE INNSBRUCK’S HISTORY

The 108 rooms and suites of Grand Hotel Europa offer the best expression of the hospitality of this charming place and the historical eras that it has passed through. These spacious, bright and comfortable rooms were designed to meet the needs of business travellers and tourists visiting Innsbruck alike and are divided into several types differing in style and interior design. They vary from the most classical and historical rooms on the top floor to more recent rooms with a contemporary flavour that is still in tune with the essence of the building and its location. They have all been refurbished and fitted with the most up-to-date facilities; they are refined but always functional and have been designed to make your stay perfect. Sleeping well is important but indulging in the pleasures of the best food is just as important. Special mention must therefore be made of the multiple award-winning restaurant “Europa Stüberl”, an elegant setting to enjoy gourmet cooking which, from breakfast to dinner, knowledgeably mixes the rich local tradition with innovative and surprising dishes to be savoured in a cosy but elegant location in the heart of Innsbruck. The Europa lounge bar is in a more contemporary style and is the ideal place for relaxing and socialising over an aperitif, light snack or refreshing drink.

Baroque Hall

EXTRAORDINARY SPACES
FOR EVENTS FIT FOR A KING

In Grand Hotel Europa you can still sense the solemnity typical of ancient historical places. Entering the hotel you feel that you can still hear the music that accompanied grand balls and banquets in the late 19th century. At the same time you will find all the comfort that we cannot do without these days, even when we are in an oasis of peace surrounded by mountains. The hotel offers exclusive public areas to celebrate like real kings. There are 4 splendid and generously sized stylish reception rooms, like the Baroque Hall, created in 1883 by the court architect of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Its 170 square metres of cultural heritage look the same today as they did when it was built. This enchanting room with chandeliers, hangings, wood panelling and ceilings nearly 8 metres high has spectacular windows looking over the Tyrolean Alps. Along with the nearby Wedding Room and the Europa Salon - a beautiful foyer in Biedermeier style - it is the jewel in the crown of Grand Hotel Europa. For years the Grand Hotel Europa has been the top place to stay for events like the annual Bergisel ski jump competition, the Air & Style Contest, the 2012 Youth Olympic Games and the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics.
